Frequently asked questions about Acrylic & Dipping Powder
What is the difference between acrylic powder and dipping powder?
Acrylic powder bonds with a liquid monomer (EMA) and is sculpted onto the nail. Dipping powder bonds with a base resin, the nail is dipped into the powder, then sealed with activator and top coat. Dip is faster and beginner-friendly; acrylic gives more sculpting control for nail extensions.
Which brand should I start with for dipping powder?
SNS pioneered modern dipping powder and remains a high-quality standard. LDS and OPI offer competitive shade ranges at wholesale prices. NuGenesis is popular for fast set times. Browse by brand in the sidebar.
Do I need a special liquid for dip and acrylic systems?
Yes. Acrylic uses liquid monomer (EMA-based). Dip uses a 3-step liquid kit (base, activator, top). The Liquid Monomer & Prep sub-category covers both system liquids.
How long does a dip powder manicure last?
With proper prep and brand-matched liquids, dip manicures last 3 to 4 weeks before lifting. SNS and LDS lead durability for high-traffic salon clients.
Is wholesale pricing available on all brands?
Yes. ND Nails Supply offers wholesale pricing across every brand on this page, no minimum order. The Buy in Bulk category includes additional volume discounts for high-volume salons.
Acrylic and dipping powder explained
Acrylic powder and dipping powder are the two foundation systems for long-wear nail services that do not rely on gel polish curing. Both use a powder + liquid chemistry, but the application workflows differ significantly. Acrylic powder bonds with a liquid monomer (EMA-based) and is sculpted onto the nail surface or used for extension nails. Dipping powder bonds with a 3-step liquid kit (base, activator, top) and the nail is dipped directly into the powder. ND Nails Supply carries 3,986 acrylic and dipping powder SKUs from nine brand families at wholesale prices, with same-day dispatch on in-stock orders before 2pm PT and free shipping on every order over $99.
This hub covers both acrylic and dipping powder. Browse by brand in the sidebar, or use the filter to refine by price and availability.

How to pick the right system
Match the system and brand to the salon service tier:
- Dip-led service salon: anchor on SNS or LDS Dipping Powder. SNS for premium positioning, LDS for wholesale-volume value. Stock both for client price-tier choice.
- Acrylic-extension salon: lead with Chaun Legend or Mia Secret for sculpted acrylic, plus Lavis Acrylic Color for budget-tier coverage on extended manicures.
- Existing OPI-stocked salon adding dip: add OPI Powder Perfection essentials kit plus 12 to 20 colors aligned to your top OPI GelColor sellers. Cross-sell at checkout becomes natural.
- Existing DND-stocked salon adding dip: add DND DC Acrylic & Dipping Powder in 1.6oz wholesale sizing. Same shade families as your DND gel inventory.
- Volume-pricing salon: NuGenesis offers the lowest per-ounce dip cost. Pair with Lavis Acrylic Color for the acrylic side at matching value-tier pricing.

How to apply dipping powder
The dipping powder workflow uses a 3-step liquid kit plus the powder. The procedure runs faster than acrylic sculpting and is beginner-friendly for newer nail techs.
- Prep the nail. Push cuticles, lightly buff the natural nail surface, dehydrate with nail prep.
- Apply Base liquid. Thin coat covering the natural nail. Do not cure (dip systems are air-dry).
- Dip the nail into the colored powder. Fully submerge the wet base layer, tap off excess. Repeat 2 to 3 times depending on opacity target.
- Apply Activator liquid. Sets the powder layer chemically. Wait 30 to 60 seconds for full chemical bond.
- File and shape. The activated powder layer is now sandable. Shape the nail edge and surface for the final finish.
- Apply Top liquid. Seal with the 3-step kit's top coat. Self-levels to a high-shine finish in 60 seconds air-dry.
Care & maintenance for clients
Dip manicures hit 3 to 4 week wear with proper aftercare, slightly better than gel polish. Share three rules with clients at checkout:
- Cuticle oil daily. Hydrated cuticles reduce dip lifting at the proximal nail. Same rule as gel polish, even more important on dip because the cured layer is thicker.
- Glove for cleaning. Bleach, ammonia, and acetone cleaners attack the dip top coat film. Premature dulling usually traces back here.
- Book removal at week 4. Filing off dip is a salon-only service. 100 percent acetone soak with foil wrap for 12 to 15 minutes is required (slightly longer than gel because the dip layer is thicker).
For salon storage, keep dip powder jars tightly sealed and acrylic powder bottles capped. Both absorb moisture from humid air, which affects set time and final hardness.
