WINTER COLORS

Frequently asked questions

What is in the winter colors collection?

Around 1,600 live products tagged for winter by the brands ND carries, in every format: gel color singles, gel and lacquer duos, 3-in-1 combos, dip powder, nail lacquer, and acrylic and dip powder. LDS is the largest group, then LAVIS, OPI, V Beauty Pure, Aprés, NuGenesis, DND, DND Diva, Chaun Legend, and DND DC. The palette runs reds and wines, plums, forest greens, greys, chocolates, champagne and silver glitters, and icy whites and blues.

Which winter shades should a salon stock first?

A true red, a wine, a plum, a forest green, a chocolate or taupe, and a champagne glitter. DND's Winter Wine, Winter Berry, and Champagne Winter duos cover three by name; DND DC's Inky Point, Beet Root, Wine Berry, and Crimson cover the darks; DND DC London Bridge, Pewter Gray, and Smokey Yard cover the greys; DND Diva Icy Glitz, Full Moon, and Rainbow Disco cover the sparkle. LDS Color Craze and LAVIS carry the depth at house-brand pricing.

Why shop by season instead of by brand?

Because clients ask by color, not by brand. A seasonal page shows every brand's answer to the same shade family side by side, so a salon can pick the price tier that suits each client and fill the chart's gaps without opening ten brand pages. Once the season's staples are chosen, they are reordered from the brand pages or the seasonal sub-pages for LDS, LAVIS, DND, and NuGenesis.

How do I keep dark and glitter shades looking clean?

Dark shades show every ridge and every cuticle flood, so buff evenly, cure a thin level base, apply two thin coats, and leave a hairline margin at the cuticle. Glitter needs a thick no-wipe top coat floated over it so the texture is sealed and the edge does not catch. On the lacquer side, always use a base coat, because dark lacquers stain the nail without one.

Are winter colors sold at wholesale?

Yes. Every listing at ND Nails Supply is wholesale-priced for everyone, with no business license, no minimum order, and no membership fee. The 6, 12, 36, and 72-color sets on the brand pages put a whole palette on the wall in one order. Orders $100+ ship free, and in-stock items ordered before 2pm PT on weekdays leave the same day. Filter by brand, format, color, or style option in the sidebar.

Winter nail colors, every brand and every system

This is the winter shade board across ND Nails Supply: around 1,600 live products tagged for the season by the brands ND carries, in every format a salon runs. LDS carries the largest group, followed by LAVIS, OPI, V Beauty Pure, Aprés, NuGenesis, DND, DND Diva, Chaun Legend, and DND DC. The formats are gel color singles, gel and lacquer duos, 3-in-1 combos, dip powder, nail lacquer, and acrylic and dip powder, so the same wine, forest green, or icy glitter can be delivered as a gel manicure, a dip set, a lacquer pedicure, or a sculpted acrylic. The palette is what winter means on a chart: deep reds and wines, plums and near-black purples, forest and olive greens, pewter and charcoal greys, chocolate browns, champagne and silver glitters, and the icy whites and pale blues of December.

Use the sidebar to filter by brand, format, color (glitter is the largest family on this page), or the style option on a listing (gel and lacquer, gel only, lacquer only, with dip powder, with base and top). A good share of the page is tagged clearance, so the availability filter hides what has sold through.

How to build a winter chart from this page

  • The core six: a true red, a wine, a plum, a forest green, a chocolate or taupe, and a champagne glitter. DND's Winter Wine (752), Winter Berry (754), and Champagne Winter (780) duos cover three of them by name.
  • The dark column: DND DC's Inky Point (001), Beet Root (060), Wine Berry (061), Strawberry Wine (062), and Crimson (072) for the near-blacks and wines at the value tier.
  • The greys: DND DC London Bridge (044), Pepperwood (045), Pewter Gray (046), and Smokey Yard (047), the cool grey-purples that sit between the wines and the whites.
  • The sparkle: DND Diva Icy Glitz (001), Full Moon (002), and Rainbow Disco (005), plus the LDS and LAVIS holiday glitters, for the December accent nail.
  • The premium column: OPI Intelli duos and Powder Perfection for the client who asks for a name.
  • The value depth: LDS Color Craze winter palettes (Holiday Spirit, Sweater Weather, Wonderland, Alpine Haven, Crisp Morning, Festive Fables, Frosted Fairytale) and the LAVIS Winter and Holiday tag, which carry the depth of the chart at house-brand pricing.

Why buy by season rather than by brand?

Because clients ask by color, not by brand. A client who wants a wine for the holidays does not care whether it is DND or LDS; she cares that it is on the chart in November. A seasonal page lets a salon see every brand's answer to the same shade family side by side, pick the price tier that suits the client, and fill the gaps without opening ten brand pages. Once the season's staples are chosen, the brand pages and the seasonal sub-pages linked below are where they are reordered.

How to apply dark and glitter shades so they stay clean

  1. Prep and base. Dark shades show every ridge and every cuticle flood, so buff evenly, dehydrate, and cure a thin, level base.
  2. Two thin coats, cuticle margin. A wine or a black covers in two thin coats; leave a hairline margin at the cuticle, because a flooded dark shade is the first thing a client sees.
  3. Glitter needs a cap. Cure the glitter, then a thick no-wipe top coat floated over it so the texture is sealed and the edge does not catch.
  4. Lacquer side. Base coat, two thin coats, top coat, air-dried between coats; dark lacquers stain without a base.

Pro tip: a chocolate or taupe on the whole hand with one champagne glitter accent is the winter set that photographs best and is the fastest to do.

When does the winter chart go up?

Most salons switch from the fall chart in the first week of November and carry winter through February. Reds, wines, and glitters peak in December; the greys, plums, and icy blues carry January and February until the spring pastels arrive in March. Leave the nudes and a true red on the chart year-round and rotate the greens, glitters, and icy shades out as the spring tag takes over. The sidebar season tags do the rotation.

Which winter shades get asked for by name?

A few arrive at the desk with a name attached. "Wine" and "cranberry" are the two most common December requests, and DND's Winter Wine (752) and Winter Berry (754) duos and the DND DC wines (Wine Berry 061, Strawberry Wine 062) are the bottles to have swatched at the top of the chart. "A dark green" usually means a forest green rather than an olive, and "a grey" usually means a grey-purple like DND DC London Bridge or Pewter Gray rather than a flat cement grey. "Champagne" is a fine champagne glitter, not a beige, which is what DND's Champagne Winter (780) is. Put those five at the top of the winter chart and the rest of the palette fills in behind them.

The art that goes with a winter chart

Winter is the glitter and chrome season. Over the deep reds, greens, and navies the art tray sells the LAVIS Glitter G collections (Pillow Talk and Bridal Party) and the champagne and gold glitters on the glitter page, classic silver and gold chrome for the mirror nail, and the galaxy cat eyes released for the holidays (CE13 Luminous Sky, CE14 Super Nova, CE17 Stellar Shift, CE18 Galaxtic Halo). Snowflake and star sequins over navy, a foil French in gold over red, and the LAVIS Reflective R05 Silent Night palette for the party-season flash cover the accent nails. In January the same wall turns toward Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day with the C02 Scarlet Bloom reds and the C07 Pinktopia pinks, so the winter chart is bought as two halves: the holiday deep tones in November and the reds and pinks in January.
