How do I get the cat eye effect?

How to apply LAVIS cat eye gel
- Base. Prep, dehydrate, and cure a LAVIS base. For the strongest flash, cure a coat of LAVIS Super Black gel or a deep gel first, since the light band shows about twice as clearly on a dark ground; the Water Light and Silk collections are designed to be worn over a nude or on their own for a softer effect.

- Second coat and magnet. Do not touch the gel with the magnet.
- Cure at once. The particles drift if the nail waits, so cure a full 60 seconds the moment the effect is right. Curing before the magnet means no band forms.
- Top. LAVIS Diamond Top, cured; without a top the effect dulls within about a week. Some techs float a second cat eye layer and magnet it differently for the 9D depth before topping.

Why the cat eye effect fails, and the fix
- No flash: the base was too light for a dark 9D set, or the coat was too thin for the particles to move. Cure black under the dark sets and use a fuller second coat.
- The line is blurry: the magnet was held too far away or for too short a time, or the nail waited before the lamp. Hold the magnet 1 to 2 mm above the uncured coat at 45 degrees for 5 to 10 seconds and cure at once.
- Different flash on every nail: the magnet angle changed. Rest the hand and hold the magnet at the same angle for all ten, or use a multi-pole magnet that does not depend on angle.
- Particles stuck to the magnet: the magnet touched wet gel. Wipe the magnet with alcohol and keep it off the surface.
